Germany signs

For the last month I’ve been travelling in Germany, generally having an ALL-ROUND GOOD TIME, seeing friends, walking in amazing scenery, and consuming plenty of pretzels, cheese and beer. There are some amazing old neon signs in cursive lettering still hanging on a lot of buildings (though not necessarily working). Here are some sketchy bits and bobs.

If you’re interested in not entirely accurate drawings of weird foreign signs, these prints are available to buy for £30, just drop me a line.

website update

Hello folks! You can find my new updated website at nicfarrell.com – more recent work, more relevant work, and a vicious culling of old work, one of my favourite pasttimes. Here’s an illustration of shop signs from Berlin from last year. As ever, to get in touch, email me at nclfarrell@gmail.com.

content_tdat-uk-cover-revised

I’m pleased to announce that my map of my hometown Bishop’s Stortford, Hertfordshire (see below) is featured in the new book 96 Illustrated Maps of the UK, Ireland and Iceland by the wonderful Nate and Salli at They Draw & Travel (see also They Draw & Cook – illustrated recipes aplenty). You can buy it on Amazon. Oh look, just in time for Christmas.

Christmas fair TOMORROW!

Hello Cambridge folk,

Tomorrow I will be selling my wares/making awkward chit-chat at the Christmas fair held at the big fancy new C3 Church, Brooks Road/Coldhams Lane (opposite Sainsbury’s). Come along! I’ll be selling cards, prints and a selection of Hot Yoghurt t-shirts, Christmas jumpers, tote bags and sketchbooks. It’s on from 1-6 and there’s mulled wine and food vans outside in case you’re a heathen who can’t set foot on holy ground.

TAKE ONE / Cambridge Film Festival 2016

screen-shot-3

This year, alongside producing what felt like a million tote bags, I had the pleasure of designing the Take One review zine – a departure from my usual work and an odd sensation not to be constantly drawing and scanning. Three different sixteen-page editions are produced over the eight-day festival with contributions from reviewers, Cambridge 105 film critics, student writers and weirdly a film-themed sudoku.

Cambridge Film Festival 2016

My illustrative/screenprinting side project Hot Yoghurt made this year’s Cambridge Film Festival tote bags – currently on sale at Festival sites around the city. There are only 50 and each one is painstakingly lovingly printed by hand so pop down before they sell out!

FILMING

Morning all!

This weekend I’ve been shooting a short ‘how to screenprint’ film to help people set up their own DIY businesses and make us millions. I’m sure I’ve mentioned Hot Yoghurt on here before – we make small-run limited edition t-shirts, tote bags and prints with downbeat slogans for people who hate slogan t-shirts. You can view our blog here and our lovely shop here. Film will be out soon…

Shouldn’t reveal the whole thing, but I recently designed some wedding invites for a friend, in greys/burgundy/pinks. Really pleased with them – more photos to follow at some point!

A friend’s sister is getting married at the Bronx Zoo and asked me to design their full wedding stationery. Here it is, in muted greys and greens, with some different hand lettering styles (and some seals). Particularly like the accepts with regret/declines with pleasure RSVP responses.

Evermade packaging

Last year I designed some typography for Evermade, who sell limited edition prints, clothing, homewares etc.
